Prerequisite: Trench Rescue – Awareness (or proof of equivalent training acceptable to lead instructor)
DESCRIPTION: This course presents intensive, “hands-on” training to emergency personnel who are expected to operate at a trench emergency.  Material to be covered includes:  OSHA regulations, Implementation of pre-entry procedures, Soil type identification,  Hazard control operations,  locating victims and determining victim survivability profiles, entry briefings and procedures,  use of “traditional sheeting and shoring techniques” involving both timber and pneumatic shoring equipment, sloping and benching procedures, procedures for extrication and removal of trapped victims. Personnel will operate in realistic conditions using the latest equipment available, in addition to learning how to utilize “community resources” that’s probably available in every community. This course is intended to provide “Operations” training as outlined in NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents).
