This course is intended for all emergency response personnel who might respond to an incident involving a structural collapse.  Material to be covered includes:  Scene organization and safety, Available resources for structural collapse rescue, Hazards at structural collapse incidents, Basic hazard control operations, Collapse patterns and void formation types, Search and structural stability marking systems, Introduction to the Urban Search and Rescue System, and the procedures for rescuing surface or “lightly trapped” victims from a structural collapse.   This course should be required for agencies providing Heavy Rescue or FAST services, but will be important to all personnel who might be faced with an incident involving structural collapse, whether due to natural or man-made events.  This course is intended to provide “Awareness-Level” training as outlined in chapter 3 of NFPA 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents).
