Prerequisites: 1. MUST BE 18 Years of Age
2. Affiliated with an emergency service agency
3. Candidates agency must provide their own equipment (see below)
4.*Classes are held every Tuesday & Thursday evening 7-11pm, and every Sunday 8-4pm (except Thanksgiving)

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT (not provided by HCESTC)

1. NFPA-compliant firefighter turnout coat and pants
2. NFPA-compliant firefighting helmet, fire gloves, boots & hood
3. NFPA-Compliant SCBA and mask, plus one spare cylinder
Description: This is the New Jersey Firefighter 1 Certification Course.  This 210-hour course covers the knowledge and physical skills required by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety in order for candidates to sit for the practical and written tests required to become a New Jersey Fire Fighter.  This course includes rigorous and challenging classroom instruction, self-learning and physical hands-on skills training in actual fire conditions. Both written and proficiency exams will be given at the end of the course. A passing grade of 70% is required. Some topics covered are: Right-to-Know, firefighter safety, emergency medical care, knot tying, Incident Command System, fire behavior, chemistry of fire, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, forcible entry, ladders, rescue procedures, ventilation, water supply, hose and nozzle handling, salvage and overhaul, sprinklers, communications, Blood borne Pathogens, Wildland Fires, Utility emergencies, Thermal imaging camera, rope rescue, Haz-Mat Awareness and Haz-Mat Operations.
